Welcome Ehlena Lea
FarmLink extends a warm welcome to Ehlena Lea, who joins us as a full-time Research and Extension officer. Her family owns a small merino sheep and vineyard property outside Goulburn, where her passion for agriculture and horses began. Ehlena finished a Bachelor of Agricultural Science in 2020 and has been working in far north Queensland as a Trainee Extension Agronomist in the Sugarcane industry since. During her time up North, Ehlena provided sugarcane farmers with fertiliser and soil remediation advice, variety management, GIS assistance, mapping, irrigation consultancy and worked with growers to create on farm trials. These trials mainly surrounded investigations into appropriate fertiliser rates and types. She was also involved in research projects surrounding alternative soil ameliorants and irrigation improvement in the Burdekin. Ehlena’s greatest enjoyment in her job is getting to know farmers, learning from them, and finding solutions to problems together. She hopes to continue this in her new role as a Research and Extension Officer.
