Yield Prophet Paddocks

Yield prophet is a computer modelling system used to predict crop growth, Nitrogen mineralisation and water use.

Four properties in Greenethorpe, Dirnaseer, Ardlethan and Lockhart were selected to grow Canola and Wheat crops.  Soil characterisations were done at each site to determine the crop lower limit and drained upper limit of the soil types.

By monitoring crop growth and rainfalls throughout the season and running the collected information in an APSIM computer model, predictions can be made on potential crop yields for a given seasonal rainfall.  Soil tests measure moisture and Nitrogen levels in the soil before sowing.  The predictions can be useful in estimating moisture and N levels in similar soils in surrounding regions. 

Members receive regular updates on all sites throughout the growing season.
